Black fish. Blue fish. Old fish. New fish.
This one has a little star. This one has a little car. Say! What a
lot of fish there are!”

Owners & Staff
Owners David Gruen and Rise’ Johansen welcome you to their slice of
Takysie Lake paradise. David has lived in this country his entire
life and is an avid hunter and fisherman. He serves on the board of
the local Sportsman’s Association and has a great appreciation for
recreation and conservation. He is more than willing to give a tip
on what lure you should try or where to go on the lake to catch the
best. He also knows the regulations very well, so if you have
questions understanding them, he is sure to assist you. He is hands
on and helpful and will ensure your stay is comfortable and
enjoyable. Rise’ has lived here for over 13 years and she and David
have been married for most of that time. You will find her in the
office or kitchen most of the time, where she is probably baking a
fresh strawberry rhubarb pie or dreaming up a new cheesecake recipe
– when she’s not balancing the books or taking care of the many cats
that she adores. Rise’ is also on several community boards and
takes her role in the area very seriously. Both David and Rise’
love their lifestyle here and welcome you to enjoy it as well. They
work here and live here so feel free to ask to speak to them at any
time.
We have staff members that come and go, but there are a few we
consider family members. We hope you’ll feel the same way about
them too!
Jan Owens – Jan is our store manager and a proactive part of our
Southside community. She is very involved with the Southside
Volunteer fire Department and other local community groups. Her
smile welcomes you and her witty personality keeps you coming back
for more!
Mary McEntire – Mary has been a part of this business for over 20
years. She tried to retire once, but no one wants to let her go!
Kim Goslin – Kim is one of our newest employees and she hails from
Alberta. With a deceptively demure personality, she is happy to
serve you in our restaurant. She also helps Rise’ out on the
grounds and in the cabins and suites. Have a question about horses?
– you might ask her!
Kristin Pang – Actually, she really IS a family member! Kristin is
Rise’s daughter and is usually around in the summer months, whenever
she is not attending university. She will assist you in any way
possible.
